The Nerd Words Convention is set for June 8 in LaFollette.
“It’s going to be on June the 8th at the new building — it doesn’t have a name — on Depot Street where the tennis courts once were,” said Patrick Pebley, event organizer. “And what we’re going to do, I’ve talked to several dealers that deal in comic books, toys, collectibles, that sort of thing, and what we’re going to do is we’re going to have that space. Vendors are going to pay to come in. It’s going to be a free-to-the-public event. If you’ve never been to one of these and you just want to come check it out, it isn’t going to cost you anything but a little bit of your time.”
Pebley, a Caryville alderman, spoke to the Campbell County Rotary Club on Tuesday at LaFollette Methodist Church.
“The name of the event is the Nerd Words Convention,” Pebley said. “Nerd Words is a podcast that’s about to launch post-convention, but we wanted to go ahead and brand it. That would be the folks I mentioned: myself, John [Muse], Joe [Muse], Allan [Miller].”
There will be panels on podcasting, filmmaking and book publishing, Pebley said.
“Now unless we just hemorrhage money this year — and I don’t think we will; I feel pretty good about it — this is the first annual,” Pebley said.
There will be a cosplay contest, he said.
“There’s going to be a lot more information out on this in the next two weeks,” Pebley said. “This is our first time, and we’re sorta learning the ropes on this as we go, but we feel really good about it and we feel like we’re going to have some pretty good dealers and guests.”
