Haley Bullock

Haley Bullock, 63 of Caryville went home to be with the Lord on May 10 after an extended illness. She was a member of Clinchmore Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to church and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert and Tasie McKamey Bullock; brother, Ovie Bullock.

She is survived by her brothers and wives, Archie and Henrietta Bullock of Halls, James and Wanda Bullock of Stoney Fork, Arlie and Bernice Bullock of Powell, and Larry and Pauline Bullock of Lake City; sisters, Alice Loy of Clinton, Pernice Bullock of Stoney Fork, and Pearl Phillips, of Powell; very special great nephews and great nieces, Jeremy Braden Murphy, Stephanie Seiber, Breanna Bullock, Blake Seiber, Grace Seiber, and Jacob Bullock.

Funeral services were held May 11 in the Martin Wilson Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Rutherford and Rev. Lee Phillips officiating. Interment was in the Round Rock Cemetery in Stoney Fork.

Glenadene R. Claiborne

Glenadene R. Claiborne, 84 of Dayton, passed away on the morning, of April 29 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born May 27, 1923 in LaFollette and retired after over 25 years of service from Rike’s Department Store. She was a longtime member of Stillwater United Methodist Church, was involved in the Women’s Republican Club of Dayton, and enjoyed spending time in her flower garden.

She was preceded in death by loving husband of 63 years Alexander and her parents. She is survived by two loving sons, Hobart “Gary” Claiborne and Bill Claiborne both of Dayton; precious granddaughters, Elizabeth Jean and Ellen Marie both of Dayton; sisters June Goins  and husband, Henry of LaFollette, Armenda Smith and husband, Robert of Hamilton, OH, Drucilla Reagan of Hallandale, FL, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 1 at Baker-Hazel and Snider Funeral Home with the Rev. Duane Anders officiating. Interment was in the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Stillwater United Methodist Church.

Pauline Ruth Horton

Pauline Ruth Horton, 77 of Goose Creek, SC, passed away May 11 at her residence. She was born May 31, 1930 in Campbell County. She enjoyed spending her time as a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Tennie Johnson Hembree.

She is survived by her son, Carl Horton and wife, Laurie of Goose Creek, SC; son, Carl Horton and wife, Laurie of Goose Creek, SC; grandchildren, Holly, Reagan and Cappl Horton of Goose Creek; brother, John Hembree of Anderson County.

Geneva Jackson, 85 of Gallatin, TN passed away May 9.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Jessie Gibson Wright.

Anna B. Jones

Anna B. Jones, 82 of Lake City, passed away May 9 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born March 26, 1926 in Briceville to the late Woody and Dora Braden White. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City. She enjoyed gardening, decorating her house, and spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Eugene Jones.

She is survived by her sons, Terry Jones and wife, Eva of Clinton, Harold Jones and wife, Brenda of Indiana; daughters, Ann Long of Clinton; brothers, J.C. White of Indiana, R.C. White of Heiskell; sisters, Oda Mae Bennett of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great grandchild; several nieces and nephews and host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held May 11 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian Courtney officiating. Interment was in the Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.

Larry Jones Sr., age 57 of Duff, passed away May 9 at the Beech Tree Manor in Jellico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Estel and Mae Chadwell Jones; brothers, Lonnie, Charles and Henry Jones; infant sister, Clara Jane Jones; sister, Millie Fuhrer.

Billy Joe Letner, 74 of Lagrange, GA passed away May 6.

Sandra Lobertini Miracle

Sandra Lobertini Miracle, 69 of Lafollette passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer on May 13.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Frank Joseph and Delilah “Lila” Lobertini; grandparents, Giacinto and Leonilda Lobertini and Walter and Gertrude Speaks.

She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly and Terri Miracle and her grandson, Andrew Joseph Jackson who was the absolute light of her life; former husband and father of her children, Bill Miracle; brother and sister in law, Ronald David and Sue Lobertini; cherished nieces, Darla Lobertini Bullock, Ashley Ward Maples and Rachel Bullock; sister in law, Linda Huddleston Lobertini. As well as a host of beloved family and friends who have provided support and encouragement throughout her long battle.

Her family will celebrate her courage, dignity and quite humility on May 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the LaFollette United Methodist Church with services immediately following. Graveside service will be at noon on May 16 in the Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

Karen McCart, 42 of Caryville, passed away May 7 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a loving daughter, mother, and sister.

Hugh Everett McCarty

Hugh Everett McCarty, 86, of LaFollette passed away May 6.  Born January 13, 1922 in Union County and moved to Campbell County when Norris Dam was built. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist.  He was a truck driver, laundry manager at the hospital, service station manager and farmer.  He liked gardening and reading. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Lee Foster McCarty; son, Wayne Leslie McCarty; parents Rev. and Mrs. Homer McCarty; brothers, Clyde Fairwell and Glen McCarty.

He is survived by his daughters and son in law, Barbara and Ray Ellison of Mt. Carmel, TN, Cheryl Hendricks of LaFollette; sons, Steven McCarty and wife, Cynthia of Redford, MI, Ronald McCarty and wife, Edye of Luther, MI, Larry McCarty and wife, Susan, Ulyeses McCarty and wife, Brenda, all of LaFollette; sister in law, Rosie McCarty of LaFollette; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brother, Ray McCarty and wife of Lebanon; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Dessie Wilburn Noland

Dessie Wilburn Noland, 90, of LaFollette went home to be with the Lord May 10 from her home in Stinking Creek.  She was born on April 2, 1918 to Lee and Nannie Wilburn, the youngest of 10 children.  She lived in Leavenworth, WA for 55 years before moving back to Tennessee in October 2005.  She was a member of Icicle Church of God in Leavenworth, WA.  She loved reading her Bible and adored her many pets.  She was a retired orchard worker. 

She was preceded in death by husband, Henry Noland; parents, brothers and sisters.

She is sadly missed by her only son, Virgil Bowlin and wife ReEttia; grandchildren, Teresa Housley and husband Grover, Nora (Cis) Robbins and husband Larry, Sandra Bowlin, Mike Bowlin and wife Ida; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Travis, Derik, Duran, Jordy, Koby, Weston, and Karley; nieces,  Carrie Harmon, Betty Coons and Annie Roberts; nephew, J.B. Smiddy and several great nieces and nephews; special care givers, Christy Bolton and Brenda Bolton.

Graveside services and interment were held May 14 in the Melvin Cemetery with the Rev. Pat Ayers and Rev. Andrew Ayers officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Forks Grove Baptist Church, 564 Bethlehem Road, LaFollette, TN 37766.

Karen Lynn Pebley

Karen Lynn Pebley, born November 26, 1956, passed through this veil of tears to her heavenly home on May 12.  She received the Lord into her heart at a young age.  She loved the Lord deeply and her testimony of that love was her compassion for everyone that her life blessedly touched.  One of the most important things in her life was her family and everyone that knew her became a part of her family in one way or another.  This world has lost a truly wonderful, loving, compassionate person but Heaven has brought home a very special soul.  She was employed by Kmart/Sears Holding Corporation for 25 years and was a licensed EMT.  She held a special place in her heart for all her extended family of co-workers. 

She was preceded in death by mother, Garnetta Sally Pebley; father, Delbert Carl Pebley; infant sister, Kathy Robin Pebley; grandparents, Otis and Pauline Turner and Walter and Florence Pebley.

She is survived by her sisters, Kimberly Pebley and Katrina Young and brother-in-law Michael Young all of LaFollette; brother, Kevin Pebley and sister-in-law, Michelle of Cumming, GA; nieces, Andrea Noelle Walden, Kinsey Nicole Pebley, and Kara Bryanne Pebley; nephew, Noah Michael Young, whom she loved with all her heart; aunts and uncles, Shirley and Teddy Ray Hensley, Judy and Marvin Parker, Audrey and Eugene Shears, Jenny and L.C. Edwards, Martha and Oscar Cox, Jody and Mae Turner, Willen and Orin Dain, Paulette and Louie Pebley, Nina Pebley, Elizabeth Matin, Magdalene Willis, Ellard and Goldie Pebley, Albert and Joyce Pebley, Barbara Sample, and Eula Carr, and a host of cousins, although not mentioned by names she loved each and everyone dearly.

Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. on May 15 in the Walters Chapel with the Rev. Michael Johnson and Bro. Richard Servis officiating.  Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. on May 16 in the  Sunrise Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 15 before funeral services at Walters Funeral Home in LaFollette.

Kenneth “Lige” George Pebley

Kenneth “Lige” George Pebley, 94 of Lake City, passed away May 9 at Summit View of Lake City. He was born March 12, 1914 in Coal Creek to the late William and Myra Alexander Pebley. He was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, horseshoes, and checkers and dominoes at the Corner Drug Store.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne, Sammy, Lacy, and Clyde Pebley; sister, Claudia Pebley.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi Pebley of Lake City; sons, Benny and wife, Barbara Austin of AL; daughters, Fannie Jane and husband, George Horton of Clinton, Wanda Green of OH; sister in law, Helen Pebley of Lake City; special friends, Frank and Glenith Bratcher of Lake City; seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and host of other relatives and friends.

Bessie Lou Powers

Bessie Lou Powers, 77, passed away May 9 at Beech Tree Manor Hospice. She was born September 30, 1930 in Buffalo, TN. She was a precious mother who taught her children about God at a young age. Our loss is Heaven’s gain.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Wesley Pennington; mother, Many Pennington; husband, Floyd Powers; three sons; two daughters; several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her sons, Ronnie Powers and Calvin Powers, both of Pioneer; daughters, Deanna Kennedy of Wooldrige, Judy Creekmore of Jellico, Kathy Webster, Velvet Parson and Janice Powers, all of Clinton; sister, Gracie Hicks of Jellico; brothers, Ellis Pennington of PA and Charlie King of Jellico; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends and family to mourn her passing.

Raymond Phillips

Raymond Phillips, 72 of Caryville, passed away May 11 at the home of his daughter and son in law Wanda and Billy Smith of Clinton.  He was a member of Beech Fork Baptist Church. He was retired from Consolidated Coal Company. He enjoyed hunting, four wheeling and loved the mountains and his family and friends very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Mattie Seibers Phillips; infant son, Ron Allen Phillips.

He is survived by his sons, Jerry Phillips of LaFollette, Michael, Randy, Gary and Tyrell Phillips all of Caryville; daughters and sons in law, Gale and Alan Jones of Jacksonville, FL, Wanda and Billy Smith of Clinton and Kym and Greg Smith of Andersonville; brother, Arlie”Dock” Phillips of Caryville; sisters, Dicie Johnson of Clinton and Dorothy Dykes of Crossville; 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; several nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Paul R. Smith

Paul R. Smith, 62, of Hinesville, passed away April 24. The LaFollette native had lived in Liberty County for 28 years.  He was a retired sergeant first class with the U.S. Army after 20 years of service and was a retired medical technologist with Winn Army Community Hospital in Ft. Stewart, Ga. after 18 years.

He was predeceased by siblings, Bobby Kyle, Betty Helen, Johnny Harold and a brother-in-law, Bobby Jack Malicote.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda S. Smith of Hinesville; daughter, Jennifer and husband, Kenny Couch of Hinesville; son, Jeffrey P.  and wife, Megan Smith of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Allison Couch, Spencer Couch and Rebecca Smith; sister, Dorcas Malicote of LaFollette; brothers, Charles Smith of Michigan and George and wife, Laura Smith of Kentucky; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at his residence, 606 Davidson St., Hinesville.

Martin Terry, 34 of Jellico passed away May 9 in Williamsburg, KY. He was born April 24, 1974 in Corbin, KY.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dianne Lyons Terry.

Bertha Whaley, 73 of Caryville, passed away May 12 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. She was a member of the Indian Mound Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed spending time outside with her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Flora Phillips; husband, Elmer Whaley; brother, Gene Phillips; granddaughter, Valorie Whaley Davis.

Charles Jason Woods

Charles Jason Woods, 31, of LaFollette passed away May 7 at St. Mary’s Medical Center Campbell County.  He was a member of Coolidge First Baptist Church.   He was a US Air Force veteran having been selected as Squadron Airman of the Year for his determination, motivation and service while stationed in Korea.  He also competed in Hawaii for the Pacific Air Mobility Command – Airman of the Year. 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Mary Woods and Carl and Clara Wilson.

He is survived by his mother, Lucy Wilson; father, Charles Woods; special aunt and uncle, Doris and Richard Beach of Jacksboro; care taker, Teresa Ayers.

Funeral services were held May 9 in the Cross-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Jasper Walden and Rev. W.H. Sonny Longmire officiating. Interment was in the Campbell Memorial Gardens with the military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
