Ayers allegedly leads officers on chase

Woman fights off police

The property owners told Natasha Sierra Bright to leave several times before calling the police for help.

But Bright refused to leave for the property owners and put up a fight with Caryville police. The homeowners met the police outside, saying Bright was in their house and they wanted her removed, according to the report.

“They had asked the defendant to leave several times before calling dispatch,” said officer Ben Marlow.

Store clerk reports suspicious activity

The store clerk at the Pilot Travel Center in Caryville noticed when a woman walked out wearing a pair of sunglasses on her head the tags were still attached.

The clerk told Caryville Police Sgt. Freddy Walker that she was watching a possible shoplifter, according to the report.

“The two suspects were found to be acting in a suspicious manner,” said Walker.

Jellico heats things up with chili cook-off

Hot chili sounds good on these cold days.

And Jellico is getting ready to serve up some hot plates with the Mayor’s Chilly Best Cook-Off being held for the first time.

On Jan. 22, at Veterans Park, the public is invited to cook up their best chili and have it judged. Participants can register at city hall prior to the event.

Humane Society receives money for spay and neuter program

Local animal clinics say the Campbell County Humane Society spay and neuter program is helpful for residences.

A Wal-Mart grant for $1,000 was awarded to the Humane Society in December. The money provides $50 for cats and $75 for dogs less than 40 pounds to be spayed/ neutered.

“The money from Wal-Mart goes to help Campbell County residents spay and neuter their pets,” said Humane Society Vice President and grant writer Darlene Boyd.

Caryville residence turned into meth house

It was a family home where kids played, but now it sits vacant with quarantine signs posted.

David S. McKinney was arrested from 207 Hollow Lane in August when methamphetamine components were found in an outbuilding. After his arrest, McKinney allegedly moved the operation inside. That’s when the house was quarantined, and McKinney arrested for the second time.

Still there remained anonymous tips of suspicious activity at the Caryville residence leading Lt. Stephanie Smith to keep watch over the property.
