Pill bottles spark investigation

Caryville Police Department responded to a report about several trash bags full of pill bottles last Friday.

Police Chief Johnny Jones went to the Holiday Inn in response to the complaint about the suspicious items.

The hotel manager advised Jones t an employee was weed eating the property and discovered a garbage bag. The bag allegedly contained an abundance of pill bottles, according to the report.

“I observed the garbage bag containing several pull bottles,” said Jones.

Inmate transfered to face charges in Campbell

Arrested in Jackson, Amy L. Bothe, 27, was transferred to the Campbell County Jail on Sunday to face outstanding charges.

Bothe was being sought for the illegal tattooing of a minor in February. Bothe and another suspect were gone when officers went to arrest them, according to the report filed by Caryville Police Lt. Stephanie Smith.

A warrant was filed for Bothe for child abuse and neglect. Based on the original report, the minor received a two-inch tattoo of a cross on his upper back thigh.

Caryville hosts Christmas lights contest for residents

The holidays have arrived.

The recent cold weather has most people anticipating Christmas. But in Caryville, the Christmas season starts early with a contest for the best home decoration.

“We have people down here that do a fantastic job decorating,” said alderman and tourism director Chris Stanley. “They really embrace the holidays.”

Starting this week and continuing through Dec. 13, citizens of Caryville are being encouraged to decorate their homes for Christmas.

Veterans honored at services around county

Last Thursday was a busy day for veterans in Campbell County.

Two services were held in their honor.

Veterans Affairs Officer Kevin Walden officiated the ceremonies in Jacksboro and Jellico honoring service men and women. The services in Jacksboro started in the late morning with the sun casting deep shadows from the veteran monuments.

A large crowd gathered at the veteran’s memorial next to the Campbell County Court House for the service. At the close of the program, two local men were honored for their service.
