LaFOLLETTE—Eleven men were arrested as part of an initiative by the City of LaFollette to clean up the downtown area.

The men, ranging in age from 24 to 72, were all taken into custody between Sept. 16 and Sept. 24.

City administrator Billie Russell said part of ending the prostitution problem is also working to prosecute the men who pay for the services.

“We’ve got to clean up before we can hope to get anything down here,” she said.

In August, a structure on Indiana Avenue known to be a hangout for prostitutes was cleared. In the following days, several women were arrested in an undercover sting.

Russell wants to help the women as part of the downtown revitalization initiative.
