STINKING CREEK—Tiamce, whose parent company is MCoal Corporation, plans to open a mine near the old Samp McCullah farm along Stinking Creek Road midway between Interstate 75 and US 25W.
In a recent public notice published in the LaFollette Press, the public is invited to review a renewal application to open Deep Mine No. 12 near the mouth of Charlie Hollow.
“Their intentions are to get their two mines open,” said Tim Slone of Caryville-based Irtec Engineering Consultants, which does surveying for potential mining operations. “We do the permitting work.”
The Rex Mine, located nearby, is also owned by MCoal.
“Even though things have been bad (in the mining industry), we’re trying to get a couple of jobs going,” said Slone.
Anyone may review the mine application at the mayor’s office in the Campbell County Courthouse until July 19. The Office of Surface Mining will accept written comments, objections and requests for an informal conference relative to the application. The address is: OSM Knoxville Field Office, Technical Group, 710 Locust Street, 2nd Floor, Knoxville, TN 37902. Refer to permit No. 3248.
