Spiritually Speaking Pearl Harper Acknowledging the Christ of Christmas Monday, Dec. 1, I sat down and looked through all the sale papers I had received from Thanksgiving day and through the weekend. I had saved them all with a purpose in mind, I had a plan but I didn’t enjoy what I discovered. I wasn’t looking for gifts or special sales. What I was looking for, I found no where, not in one single store, or at least the sale papers. I talked to several people who had been out of town shopping. They had not seen what I was looking for in the places they had visited. I found Christmas trees, wreaths, reindeer, snowmen and I enjoy these things also, but not one single solitary nativity scene. I found a few nice ones to use indoors but I did not find one outdoor scene except one that‘s inflatable. I have a beautiful indoor nativity scene; it is the first thing I get out. To me it is the true meaning of Christmas. I know there are a lot of reasons when products become unavailable. One, is that owner’s do not choose to carry a product, two, if a product doesn’t sale well the computer pulls the item to make room for something else. I experienced some of the saddest feeling when the chain stores started using happy holidays instead of Merry Christmas. Christmas, the celebrated date of the Birth of the Savior of the World, Jesus Christ. As I was writing this I paused to watch the evening news. What caught my attention was a statement; the United States is definitely in a recession. My mind instantly went to what I was writing about. Leaving off the real meaning of Christmas in America’s celebration of that day, aligns to what is wrong in a Christian nation. We are a nation founded on Christian principles. In God We Trust, has been a standard, a banner, if you please, to lead and guide us these many years. Now people who do not want to acknowledge our God, The Great I Am, the one who sent His Son. So that whosoever called upon His name could have everlasting life, are trying to cover up and hide the true meaning of Christmas. Read John 3:16-21, it is very enlightening, some do not want the light to shine through, because their deeds will be discovered. Guess what, as our country has officially owned up to being in a recession since last December, is our nation in a spiritual recession? We were from the beginning, a Godly nation. Not a nation of gods. Since 1962 prayer is not allowed in our classroom, when in fact, in the beginning, the Bible was the official textbook. In the early 1970’s, permission was given to kill unborn babies, without fear of being tried as a murderer. Since then untold millions of babies have been killed. The sowing and reaping principles is not just mere words, “What a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” A country acknowledges God or ignores Him. It seem more and more; “Christmas, celebrating the Birth of the Savior;” is being covered up in our nation. I don’t know about you, but for myself, I wish everyone Merry Christmas, not happy holiday or merry winter. God Bless.
