LaFOLLETTE—Dakota Scott Lane, 127 Lacey Lane, Caryville, has multiple charges following his alleged burglary of C & L Furniture. Witnesses Bobby Barnes and Joseph Gosnell said Lane, 21, wanted to spend the night Friday and would return that night, according to reports. Lane allegedly arrived the following morning. He asked Barnes and Gosnell if anyone would like to buy a heater and some jewelry, according to reports. Lane allegedly admitted to LaFollette Police Officer Charles Duff that he broke into C & L Furniture with James Dabney. Reports say Lane witnessed Dabney allegedly break the store’s $300 front window. They removed a $546.24 Dyna-Glo Delux space heater, according to reports, and took the heater around the alley behind C & L Furniture. Lane allegedly said that he called Gosnell, who reportedly arrived in a truck from Jellico. Lane then said Gosnell allegedly allowed him to place the heater in the bed of the truck. Records show Gosnell stated he did not own a truck for Lane to borrow. According to reports, he had only seen Lane twice, the night he was looking for a place to stay and the morning after when Lane was allegedly selling jewelry and a heater. Lane allegedly admitted that he wore gloves to conceal his fingerprints. The heater was reportedly found in a building behind the witnesses’ residence, where Lane had requested to spend the night. Lane is charged with a capias/bench warrant, resisting stop, frisk or halt search, burglary, theft of property greater than $500 and vandalism.
