Arrests made in boot store burglary

Caryville Police were able to close the books last week on a crime that occurred on nearly two week before.

On Feb. 12 Det. Stephanie Smith responded to a breaking and entering call at Owen Boot Store.

An employee reported when she arrived at the store that morning she discovered the glass in the back door had been shattered. She immediately went to the business next door to phone authorities.

At the scene Smith observed a brick lying on the floor, which had been used to smash the door. An inventory of the store allegdly revealed that nearly $8,500 in cash and merchandise was missing from the business.

On Feb. 23 Smith, Campbell County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Jimmie Jeffies and Sgt. Preston Primm were able to arrest three individuals in connection with the crime.

Matthew Wayne Ayers, 19, of 1101 West Avenue, Daniel Adam Leach, 20, of 942 Coolidge Road, and a juvenile male for the burglary.

Smith, Jeffries and Primm had received information that the trio had the property from the boot store. The merchandise was recovered from Ayers’ residence.

All three were arrested and charged with theft over $500.
