The South Campbell County Rotary Club is known for many things. Among these is its naming the citizen of the year.
However, this year the club is breaking with tradition choosing not honor someone but roast one its own.
On April 16 the club will pay tribute, with tongue in cheek, to Haskel “Hack” Ayers, a long time Rotarian and native Campbell Countian.
“This is the first time we have ever honored a Rotarian and everybody wanted to honor Hack,” said Ann Ayers, Rotary member and event organizer. “He has done a lot for the community and for Rotary. This is long overdue.”
During the course of the evening, which begins at 6:30 p.m., friends, family and community leaders will share stories about Ayers.
The full course dinner will be served at the LaFollette Church of God, where Ayers has been a member for many years.
“The ladies of the church will be serving their signature roast beef,” Ann Ayers said.
Tickets for the event are $25 and must be purchased in advance. Tickets can be obtained by calling Ann Ayers at 562-2526 or (865) 617-2240. Aside from Ann Ayers, other Rotary members will have tickets to sell.
All proceeds raised will benefit Rotary outreach programs.
