A LaFollette man spent his New Year’s in jail after being arrested for DUI and evading arrest.

On Dec. 31, Jacksboro Police Officer Mike Starrett observed Kenneth James Bale, the II, 28, of 655 Wheeler Lane, traveling at a high rate of speed on Sharp Perkins Road, according to the Jacksboro Police report. Starrett then noticed Bale pass through a stop sign onto Highway 25W, where he allegedly was following another vehicle too closely, according to Starrett’s report. Bale turned down Wheeler lane, at which point, Starrett initiated his blue lights, according to the police report. Bale allegdly stopped in his parent’s driveway, where Starrett had him perform two field sobriety tests, which Bale allegedly failed, Starrett’s report said. Bale had a strong odor of alcohol on him, so Starrett asked him to submit to a blood alcohol test. Bale allegedly agreed, but then refused after arriving at the St. Mary’s Medical Center emergency room, the police report said.

Bale was charged with DUI, felony evading arrest, violation of implied consent law, violation of traffic control device, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, reckless driving and following too closely. He is currently being held on $2,500 bond and has a court date set for Jan. 8.
