LAKE CITY—A resolution was passed last week by city council to apply for a Community Development Block Grant of not more than $525,000 to replace and improve some of the infrastructure of the town’s aging water system. If approved, the grant would pay for new water meters and a more efficient automatic reading system that would help reduce water loss. Public Works Director Travis Thrasher estimated it would take around $350,000 to change out all the meters within the city limits. The estimated cost to the city would be around $65,000 for the total project or $225 per customer through the 80/20 match grant. Thrasher said a complete changeout of all the city’s meters could likely be accomplished within 30 days of the start of the project.
