Jellico High School’s baseball team dropped a 19-8 decision last week to visiting Pineville, Ky.
The Blue Devils (1-6 district, 2-9 overall) trailed 6-3 going to the third inning, where the Mountain Lions began to pad their lead.
Gabe Mitchell and Michael Smith had 2 RBI each to lead Jellico.
Jaspar Budd and Austin Bowlin had 1 RBI each. Devin Oakes scored the Blue Devils’ other run.
Bret Begliutti had a triple for Jellico’s only extra-base hit of the game.
Oakes started the game on the mound. Mitchell and Bowlin pitched in relief.
The Mountain Lions scored three runs on two outs in the top of the third inning.
Jellico rallied briefly in the bottom of the fourth, when Budd, Mitchell and Smith drove in runs to cut their team’s deficit to 9-6.
Pineville took advantage of a Blue Devils’ error in the top of the fifth to score three runs and double the score on Jellico, 12-6. The Mountain Lions put seven more runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning. Mitchell and Smith closed out the bottom of the sixth with an RBI each to account for the final margin.
