The town of Jellico, the Day Spring Family Health Center and the Susan G. Komen Foundation from Knoxville have teamed up for an educational session about breast cancer.
“Everyone knows someone who has or has had breast cancer,” said Doris Stiers, one of the event organizers.
The event will be tomorrow at the Jellico Civic Center from noon to 1 p.m.
“We try to have it in one hour, that way people who are working can come, eat lunch, take in everything and get back to work,” she said.
The lunch is free, and there will be gift bags for every attendee, as well as door prizes.
“We’re really hoping that we’ll have a lot of breast cancer survivors come that can share their story with somebody else.”
While this is the first year for the session, Stiers hopes it can become a yearly event.
Those interested will also be able to sign up for free mammograms. Day Spring Family Health Center will handle the arrangements, and the mammograms will take place at Jellico Hospital between now and March 31. Day Spring can be reached at 784-8492.
“It’s a real good thing, and I think it’s needed here,” Stiers said.
