A LaFollette man has been indicted for attempted second-degree murder after shooting the son of his girlfriend.

Earlier this year, Rodney Brooks was arrested by LaFollette Police following a dispute with 24- year old Anthony Potter. The two had been arguing about Potter’s mother, police said at the time.

Last week, a grand jury indicted Brooks on the attempted second-degree murder charge along with being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned Brooks allegedly shot Potter twice at close range with a .25 caliber semi- automatic gun, the report said.

He allegedly then fled before authorities arrived.

However, hours later the LPD arrested Brooks without incident.

As police investigated the shooting and believed suspect, they learned Brooks had a lengthy criminal history, Det. Monty Miller said.

Brooks is scheduled to appear in court next month.
