The Campbell County High School boy’s track and field team placed fifth in a field of 15 teams last weekend at the William Blount Invitational.
Justin Young won the high jump (6’2”), was runner-up in triple jump (40’10”) and finished sixth in the 800 meter run. However, the highlight of the meet was when Young took the Cougars from seventh to second place on the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay.
Joseph Pereyo, Adam Taylor and Trevor Nolan were the other members of the 4x400 team.
Preston Young won the shot put with a personal record (PR) throw of 52’ 2 1/2” and was runner-up in discus (142’6”).
Also scoring points for the Cougars was Travis Ward, Austin McMahan, Lucas Nelson, Bradley Paul, Daniel Peach, Garrett Reese and Tyler Chapman.
The Lady Cougars placed ninth out of 13 teams at the same meet.
Freshman Kristin Chapman narrowly missed out on first place in the high jump and finished sixth in the 200 meter dash.
Sisters Lindsay and Lauren Evans finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the high jump and 800 and 3,200 races. Lauren Evans had a PR in the 800.
