A spending spree turned into a crime spree for a duo who allegedly helped themselves to someone else’s cash and credit.

After managing to evade authorities since July, officers with the LaFollette Police Department arrested Allen Dewayne Cordell, 24, of 126 Long Hollow Road, and Elizabeth Paige Douthat, 18, of 506 Green Meadow Road, Kingsport in court last Tuesday.

The two were in court to answer to charges related to another matter, Sgt. Det. Jason Henegar said.

In July an investigation by Henegar revealed while staying at a residence on East Elm Street Cordell and Douthat allegedly stole “bank account numbers, checks and a credit card” from the residence owner.

According to the warrant, the pair wrote 13 checks from three different accounts totaling $5,500 and made purchases which totaled $13,356.19 on a stolen credit card.

Both Cordell and Douthat were charged with felony theft over $10,000, forgery and identity theft. They are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 19.
