Jacksboro Middle School’s boys toppled LaFollette from the ranks of basketball’s unbeaten teams Thursday night.
The Eagles won, 39-32, behind a sterling performance by guards Ethan Simpson and Skylar Williams, who scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Williams scored 10 of his points--including a three-pointer and 7 of 8 free throws--in the decisive fourth quarter. Jordan Kindred finished with six points for Jacksboro while Robert Adkins had three, Trey Torres and Brandon Long two each.
A different team had the lead at the end of each of the first three quarters. LaFollette held an 18-14 advantage at intermission, but the Eagles outscored the Owls 25-14 in the second half to take the victory.
The Owls, now 4-1 overall, got 12 points on four treys from Brandon Lee. Isaac Phillips chipped in seven points for LaFollette followed by Corey Poteet with five, Gunner St. John four, Rolston Letner three and Tyler Tomblin one.
The Lady Owls, who improved their record to 4-1 this season, won the girl’s game.
Samantha Leach led eight LaFollette players into the scoring column with nine points followed by Rachel Harris and Niki Ward with five each; and Lauren Heatherly, Emily Byrge, Madison Griffith, Cheyenne Powers and Hannah Ayers two each.
Hannah Owens and Jamie Mynatt paced the Lady Eagles with four points each while Whitney Williamson had three points, Whitney Sawyer two points and Courtney Charles one.
