Middle school football teams begin their “second season” this week with first-round playoff games at various sites throughout East and Middle Tennessee.
Jacksboro won’t have far to go with a short road trip tonight (Thurs.) to Clinton. The Eagles (3-5 overall) wrapped up their regular season last week with a 38-16 homecoming victory over H.Y. Livesay.
Seventh grader Paul Courdle rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns for Jacksboro. Nick Bailey and Dalton Ledbetter each scored a touchdown. Bailey ran for 43 yards and also had a pair of two-point conversions.
Andrew Evans had 50 yards rushing. Quarterback Kaine Peel ran for a two-pointer and threw a pass to Jesse Sharp for another.
Peel, also a seventh grader, completed 7 of 13 passes for 91 yards with no interceptions. The Eagles played a near flawless game on offense and were flagged for only one penalty all night.
It was 22-0 at halftime as Jacksboro’s defense dominated H.Y. Livesay.
Jordan Bruce and Colton Irwin led the Eagles with five tackles each.
Also last week, the LaFollette Owls finished their regular season with a 36-0 loss at Huntsville. The Owls (1-7 overall) logged some major miles Tuesday night with a road trip to Cookeville to play Avery Trace in their playoff opener.
