When: Friday
Where: Midway High School; Roane County, Tenn.
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Records: Jellico (0-4) at Midway (1-3)
Previous meeting: Last season, Midway took this non-district game from the Blue Devils. The Green Waves took last year’s game, the first between the two schools since 2004, 56-12 in Jellico.
Last week: Jellico had a long game, facing off with the referees as well. Numerous flags were thrown against the Blue Devils, as Sunbright was able to come away with a win, 21-6. Drew Bruce came away with the only score for the Jellico last week in the game against the Tigers.
For Jellico, it was also a tough one. That loss tied the school record for their longest losing streak, which now stretches to 14 games. The only other time in Blue Devil history that the streak has happened was between 2002 and 2004, when Jellico won over Cosby 28-14.
Midway faced a tough one last week, as they fell to Greenback 49-0. Greenback, the little school just outside of Blount County, has started off incredibly well at 5-0 this season. Between the games against Lookout Valley, Whitwell and Greenback, the Green Waves have been outscored 110-6. Their lone victory on the season came week-before-last, as they defeated Pickett County 38-8.
Keep an eye on: Jellico’s turnover situation. In last week’s contest against the Tigers, the Blue Devils found seven turnovers and 17 penalties, which ultimately spelled their demise. However, the defense held strong, holding Sunbright to only 21 points in the crazy game. Look for the defense to be coming back for more this weekend as they face a Midway team with some big preparation.
The Blue Devils are looking for their first victory over Midway. In the history of the two teams, they’ve played each other three teams with each game going to the Green Waves. However, Jellico has shown improvement in every game they’ve played thus far, as they look to add to the school record streak.
