FRIDAY NIGHT PREVIEW: Jellico vs. King’s Academy

-A A +A
By Chris Cannon

When: Friday

Where: Jellico High School

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

Records: King’s Academy (0-2) at Jellico (0-2)

Previous meeting: King’s Academy took last year’s contest with a 33-10 victory, while the game took place in the Lions’ home stadium.

Last week: Jellico had an open date last weekend. However, during Week One, the Blue Devils fell to North Greene by a score of 29-0 at North Greene. Jellico goes into Week Three looking for their first win of the season following a week break from Friday night action.

King’s Academy also comes off a loss. Tri-Cities Christian defeated the Lions by a score of 32-20.

Keep an eye on: With both teams hungry for their first win, this one is stacking up to be a close game. Jellico showed vast improvements over Huskies of North Greene from last season, as they fell 46-0 in last season’s contest. This season, the defense held them to only 29 points, as it will play a key role in this weeks match-up. With Jellico seeing a good scrimmage at the first of the season, look for Jellico to know a few of the schemes.

King’s Academy hasn’t had an easy road this season, as well. Falling to a tough Cosby who made the playoffs last season by a score of 41-14 in Week One, followed by a 32-20 loss to Tri-Cities Christian last week has left them looking for their first win of the season as well.

This game is also a grudge match for the Blue Devils and Lions. Dating back to 1993, the two have played each other 10 times. Since that time, the series is knotted at five games each. King’s Academy has won five of the last six, while Jellico took the first four.
