Where: Jellico High School
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Records: Sunbright (0-3) at Jellico (0-3)
Previous meeting: Last season, Sunbright took the contest at Sunbright. Jellico fell by a tough score of 56-6 in the district match-up.
Last week: Sunbright suffered a tough loss to Coalfield, 42-7, as they haven’t seen their first win this season. Coalfield, a ranked team simply ran away from the Tigers in the game.
For Jellico, it was a heartbreaker. The Blue Devils trailed 34-6 at the half. The second half became Jellico’s game, pulling their way back into the game. However, the clock struck zero before the Blue Devils could complete their comeback run, as they fell to King’s Academy 34-22.
Keep an eye on: For Jellico, this is an important one. Between 2010, 2009 and this season, the Blue Devils have lost 14 straight. Friday’s bout with the Tigers is one that becomes important. From 2002 to 2004, the Blue Devils saw their worst run ever. Through those three years, Jellico fell 15 times in a row before finally defeating Cosby 28-14. This Friday’s contest will be the school record tying game, unless Jellico can battle their way out of this slump.
It won’t be easy, however. Making up 50 points from last season will be a tough feat for the Blue Devils. This season, Sunbright has only scored 19 points, being left scoreless against Copper Basin. Last Friday night alone, Jellico put up 22. If they come out with the same intensity they did in the second half against King’s Academy, it should be an interesting stop to their winless drought.
