After two men were hospitalized for gunshot wounds the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department started an investigation.

Deputy Daniel Ward and Detective Jimmy Jeffries were dispatched to St. Mary’s Medical Center around 3 a.m. Friday, said Sheriff Gary Perkins. The injured males, in their mid 20’s, were later transported to UT Medical Center.

Wesley Market and Travis Hollifield were on Old Highway 63 in Red Ash in Caryville when a white truck pulled up beside them and began shooting, according to the offense report.

Market sustained a wound in the right forearm and Hollifield was shot in the upper chest, said Jeffries. The weapon is believed to be a semi-automatic handgun.

Despite his injuries Market was able to drive to the emergency room at St. Mary’s.

Market was released the same day, while Hollifield was treated for several days. Hollifield’s condition was recently considered stable, according to Jeffries.

There is an ongoing investigation into the incident, according to Perkins.
