Governor to speak at Lincoln Reagan Day Dinner

Governor Bill Haslam will visit The Stables for the Campbell County Republican Party’s Lincoln Reagan Day Dinner on May 31.

“We’re honored that the governor’s taking time out of his busy schedule to come up here,” 36th District State Rep. Dennis Powers said. Powers will be the master of ceremonies for the dinner.

The Lincoln Reagan Day Dinner is an annual event to celebrate President Abraham Lincoln and President Ronald Reagan’s birthdays.

“Lincoln was considered the founder of our party,” Powers said. “Reagan was one of the premier members of our party.”

Both Lincoln and Reagan were born in February, so the event is late this year.

This is because the schedule was adjusted to accommodate Haslam, who will be the keynote speaker.

“We’ve been working for about two years to get the governor to be there,” Powers said.

State Senator Kent Yeager, United States Congressman Chuck Fleischmann and State Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver, from Smith County, will also attend the dinner.

Weaver has recorded multiple CDs and won singer/songwriter of the year with three number one hits in Gospel music.

She also won Female singer of the year in 1993. She will be singing at the dinner.

The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. All candidates running in upcoming elections will be recognized.

Those interested in purchasing tickets, which cost $25, can call Rae Mihal at 784-5297 or the county mayor’s office at 562-2526.

Forty-two tables, which seat eight people, have already been sold. Between 400 and 500 people are expected.

The Stables is located at 295 Fincastle Road in LaFollette.
