JELLICO—Jellico police are searching for a man accused of raping a Jellico woman earlier this month.
Jellico Police Officer Jeff Ivey was dispatched to a home to investigate an alleged rape late in the morning on Aug. 4.
Monty Sands, 33, formerly of Williamsburg, Ky., was reportedly spending the night at a home in Jellico when he allegedly raped one of the occupants, police said. Sands fled the residence on foot when the victim was able to push him away and call police.
Later that day, Sands was located at a home in Pleasant View, Ky., in Whitley County, where police say he got into an altercation with a man there and again fled on foot.
Sands is still on the run and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to Jellico Police Chief Chris Anderson. Sands has several prior weapons and drug charges.
Sands is a 6-foot white male with brown hair and eyes. His last known address was 250 Hurricane Hollow in Williamsburg, Ky., though he’s been known to move often, police said.
Anyone with information about Sands’s whereabouts should call 911 or their local police department.
