UP THE VALLEY—Police are hesitant to release many details following a shooting on Back Valley Road in LaFollette.

Campbell County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 1555 Back Valley Road on Jan. 11 after gunshots were reported. While en route, Deputy Franklin Ayers learned that a man possibly involved in the incident had arrived at Tennova’s LaFollette Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

At the home, Sgt. Matt Wasson and Deputy Andrew Sanford attempted to make contact with Denvin Miller, 80, who was still inside the home, according to reports.

Miller was allegedly spotted with a revolver, later identified as a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber, police said.

After a brief standoff, Miller surrendered.

Police are still investigating why Miller allegedly shot Merle Ivey, 51, also of 1555 Back Valley Road. Ivey was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville where he has since undergone surgery. Police hope to speak with him once his condition stabilizes.
