CARYVILLE—A Jacksboro man is charged with rape and kidnapping for an incident that allegedly occurred early Tuesday morning.

Matthew David Hall, 44, of Jacksboro, was arrested by Caryville Police officers at about 6 a.m. Tuesday for allegedly raping a woman, records show.

He is additionally charged with false imprisonment, aggravated assault and violation of the sexual offender registration act.

Hall is accused of holding the victim down against her will in an abandoned house next to the Shoney’s restaurant near Interstate 75, Caryville Police Chief Stephanie Smith said. Hall reportedly threw the victim’s phone out of reach during the struggle, but she managed to escape and have a family member call 911, Smith said.

Officers apprehended Hall on the scene.

Authorities believe Hall and the victim were in a relationship prior to the event, Smith said.

The case was still under investigation as of Tuesday.

Hall is being held in Campbell County Jail without bond.
