Jellico girls stumble in Region 1-A

Basketball season ended for the Jellico High School girl’s team Friday night with a 66-32 loss at Hampton in the first round of the Region 1-A Tournament.

Kayla Bolton tallied a game-high 11 points for the Lady Blue Devils (6-24 overall) but couldn’t overcome the Lady Bulldogs’ platoon of scorers.

Mikki Oliver, MVP of the District 1-A Tournament, and Kelli Bradley scored eight points each to lead Hampton (20-11 overall) out to a 53-13 halftime lead. The Lady Bulldogs shot 55 percent from the field during the first half and outrebounded Jellico by a 51-26 margin.

Also scoring for the Lady Blue Devils was Ashley Ouimette with six points, including a pair of treys; Karli Creekmore and Ashley Gulley four points each, Amber Barton three, Noel Tiller and Ariel King two each.

The Lady Blue Devils, who have a young team with no seniors and only one junior (Tiller) have set a goal of returning to regionals next year.
