Jellico High School’s volleyball team defeated rival Campbell County, 25-17, 25-13, Monday night at CCHS for its 10th win of the season.
The Lady Blue Devils (10-6 overall) have already wrapped up the District 4 regular season championship and are preparing for next week’s league tournament, which has been moved from Wartburg to Coalfield.
“After we beat Berean Christian (last week on senior night), I have hope that we’ll get to substate,” said Jellico coach Barbara Carter.
Jellico had been beaten badly by Berean Christian earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Campbell County’s varsity team (4-24 overall) has struggled this season, but the junior varsity team has a winning (9-8 overall) record. The Lady Cougar jayvee owns victories over District 3 powers Knoxville Central, Powell, Clinton and Knox Halls. Campbell County also lost a close match to Oak Ridge. Last year, the Lady Cougar junior varsity didn’t win any district matches.
“That’s the next step,” said Campbell County coach David Seals.
