History kept rewriting itself this year whenever the Jellico High School volleyball team took the court.
The Lady Blue Devils won their district, finished the Region 2-A Tournament as runners-up, qualified for their first-ever sub-state appearance, and set a school record for wins (16-7 overall).
Now they can boast of the first all-state volleyball player in school history.
Ashley Gulley, a 6-foot junior, was named last week to the 2009 Tennessee Sports Writers’ Association Class A All-State Volleyball Team. Gulley made the team because of her scoring and blocking ability.
Amber Nolen of state champion Boyd-Buchanan was named coach of the year. Players on the TSWA Class A All-State Team include: middle/outside hitters Megan Brasfield, Madison; Shelby Crenshaw, Trinity Christian; Rachel Harper, Boyd-Buchanan; Ashley Gulley, Jellico; Callie Hildebrand, Signal Mountain; Stephanie Silvers, Boyd-Buchanan; Kaitlyn Teeter, Friendship; Kennedy Wade, Grace Christian; Caroline Whittaker, Grace Christian; and Kinsley Williams, Loretto; setters Caroline Ezell, Loretto; Dakota White, North Greene; Natalie Nelson, Trinity Christian; and Georgia Paturalski, Signal Mountain; and libero Devin Jennings, Summertown.
