Campbell County High School’s varsity girls split a pair of basketball games with Maryville and Heritage last weekend at the Heritage Thanksgiving Classic. The Lady Cougars (2-2 overall) defeated the host team, 67-53, a day after suffering a 56-45 defeat at the hands of Maryville. Shayla Goins, a junior post player, scored a season-high 16 points and grabbed half a dozen rebounds during the win over Heritage. Point guard Courtney Morris, who leads the Lady Cougars in scoring for the season, chipped in 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, dished out 6 assists and made 3 steals.Amber Young added 11 points, followed by Kristin Chapman with 10, Maria Foust 5, Courtney Miller and Hannah Owens 4 each, and Niki Ward 3. Miller made 5 assists, while Chapman had 5 steals, 5 rebounds and a 3-pointer. In the loss to Maryville, Chapman led the Lady Cougars with 12 points, followed by Young with 6, Morris, Goins, Miller and Owens 5 each; Samantha Leach 3; Foust and Ward 2 each. Young led Campbell County with 12 rebounds. Morris, Chapman and Young made 4 steals each.
