Seniors took center stage Monday afternoon for the Campbell County High School softball team.
The Lady Cougars celebrated Senior Day with a 9-7 victory over the Knoxville Ambassadors in game one of a varsity doubleheader.
First baseman Mary Hickman, one of three CCHS seniors honored during a ceremony between games, put Campbell County on the scoreboard with a 3-run double to left field in the first inning. That gave the Lady Cougars an early 3-0 advantage.
Classmate Alex Hempsall smacked a 2-run double in the fourth inning to keep Campbell County in the lead.
Megan Bailey had three base hits for the Lady Cougars, while Jordan Daugherty had two.
Campbell County lost the second game, 15-1, mainly due to five errors.
Hempsall pitched both games for the Lady Cougars (2-21 overall). She struck out two batters in the first game and three in the second.
The Lady Cougars will host county rival Jellico on Monday at 6 p.m.
