Victory was plentiful Tuesday night for Jacksboro Middle School’s varsity basketball teams, which made a varsity sweep of visiting Soldiers Memorial.
The Lady Eagles stayed unbeaten (13-0) with a 50-10 rout of the SMMS girls. Post player Jamie Mynatt led a balanced attack for
Jacksboro with 10 points. Whitney Sawyer chipped in nine points — all from downtown — followed by Whitney Williamson with eight, Megan Caudill seven, Olivia Brown six, Michaela Smith five, Krista Williams three, Hannah Owens and Shianna Marlow one each.
Haley Bolden scored six points to carry SMMS.
Jacksboro hit nine 3-point shots during the contest, including three by Sawyer and two by Williamson.
The game was never in doubt. The Lady Eagles led 29-4 at halftime and 37-8 going to the fourth quarter.
Balance was also key to the boy’s game, as nine Jacksboro players shared the scoring load during a 39-23 victory.
Jordan Bruce and Jacob Clowers set the pace with nine points each for the Eagles (5-8 overall), followed by Nick Bailey with seven, Preston Griffith and Noah Vibbert three each; Kaine Peel, Dalton Ledbetter, Josh Lasley and Darin Gillenwater two each.
Gillenwater, one of Jacksboro’s leading scorers this season, hurt his back during the first quarter and spent the remainder of the game on the bench.
Even with one of their stars injured, the Eagles managed to stay ahead of SMMS. Jacksboro led 11-4 after one quarter and 18-8 at halftime. Bruce was a big help by scoring six of his nine points in the first half.
The Eagles continued to pad their lead in the third quarter and held a 31-12 advantage going to the fourth.
Tyler Widener and Wade Williams paced SMMS with 10 and nine points, respectively.
In other games Tuesday night, LaFollette’s girls defeated Oak Ridge-Jefferson, 24-12, but the Owls lost, 41-22.
