The LaFollette Middle School girl’s varsity basketball team dropped a 37-31 decision Thursday night to visiting Norris.
Kaitlyn Cupples scored 13 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lady Senators, who remain unbeaten this season.
LaFollette was led by Samantha Leach, who scored 11 points. Rachel Harris chipped in six points, followed by Chelsea King with five, Cheyenne Powers four, Niki Ward three and Emily Byrge two each.
The game was tied 12-12 at halftime, but the Lady Owls took a 20-18 lead into the final six minutes.
“We played real good defense until Cheyenne fouled out late in the fourth quarter,” said Lady Owls coach Marsha Morton.
“She was the only one we had with enough size to shut down Cupples. She scored most of her points when Cheyenne fouled out.
“We also didn’t foul and get the clock stopped like we needed to.
“But this was a far better performance than our last game (against Norris). Maybe we will get another shot at them come tournament time.”
Earlier last week, LaFollette won 32-26 at Oneida.
Chelsea King led all scorers with 13 points, followed by Ward with 11, Leach and Powers four each.
Shalyn Lay and Katie Sexton scored five points each to lead Oneida.
LaFollette’s junior varsity girls cruised to a 34-17 victory at Oneida.
Marie Roach paced the Lady Owls with 13 points, followed by Faith Evans with eight, Amber Guy six, Chelsey Finkenbine five and Kendra King two.
Victoria Williams and Brittany Stephens scored four points each to lead the Oneida junior varsity.
