LaFollette Fitness Center Team takes top awards at competitions

The Academy of Martial Arts at LaFollette Fitness Center recently took several members to a tournament hosted by Alliance Martial Arts in Corbin, Ky.  

Three competitors from the Fitness Center participated in the tournament. Events included forms (kata), weapons, point fighting, sport jujitsu and grappling.

Medals were awarded for first through third place, and trophies were awarded to the Grand Champion in each division.

The three-member competition team from Lafollette Fitness Center won a total of seven medals, including four 1st place awards and a Grand Champion trophy.  

“I was very pleased with their performance,” said senior instructor Larry Bostic.  

A list of the LaFollette Fitness Center competitors and their awards is as follows:

•Andrew Noe—1st place grappling, 3rd place point fighting.

•Cassie Stokes—1st place weapons, 2nd place grappling, 2nd place point fighting, Girl’s Grand Champion.

•Jeremiah Hunter—1st place grappling, 1st place point fighting.

The Academy of Martial Arts would like to extend its thanks to the schools, students and parents who helped make this tournament a success.

The Academy of Martial Arts was founded in Lafollette over 25 years ago by the late

Tyrone Shepard, who later turned the operation of the school over to senior instructor Larry Bostic. Located at LaFollette Fitness Center, the school teaches Shaolin Kung Fu and Jujitsu to adults and children, as well as specialized self-defense for women.
