LaFollette library refused non-Christian books

-A A +A

 To the editor:

The LaFollette Community librarian has turned down two valuable, free books I offered to give the library. One was the Dhammapada of Buddha, the most widely read Buddhist writing in the world. The other was The Sufi Path of Knowledge, by William Chittick, and expensive and world-class scholarly book about the mystical branch of Islam.
The librarian said she refused the gifts because she had never had requests for them. Surely she knows people browse library shelves and pick millions of new titles that catch their interest. Millions of Christians want to know more about Buddhism and the mystical side of Islam. But due to the librarian’s poor decision, tax payers or children who might be interested will stay ignorant.
