Tax Help and Forms Available at LaFollette Public Library   It’s that time of year again. Taxes. AARP has once again partnered with the LaFollette Public Library as a site for free tax preparation. This service has been offered here at the library by the AARP for many years. It is free and is by appointment only. Preference is given to the elderly and low income, but as long as appointments are available anyone can use this service. It begins on Feb. 4 and will continue through April 15. This is provided one day a week only and by appointment only. Absolutely no walk-ins will be accepted. Call the library at 562-5154 to make your appointment. We also have an ample supply of tax forms available for your use in filing your personal income taxes. The library does not provide assistance in filing your taxes; we provide the forms only. These are for individual tax filing and we do not provide any employer forms such as 1099. This is just another service we offer to you here at your public library. On a personal note, I traveled to Del Rio, TX on Dec. 20 with my daughter and grandchildren. They have moved there to join her husband who is employed there. I returned home on Jan. 4. The climate in Texas was much warmer than it is here in good old Tennessee. It reminds me of Florida; flat land, no mountains, and lots of palm trees. The children have registered at their individual schools and have begun classes. It is quite different than our schools here. The two younger children are in KG and 3rd grade. Their school is laid out in a similar fashion to LaFollette Elementary, but is much larger. My grandson in the 6th grade attends a 6th grade only school, and it is really big. I also have a granddaughter in the 8th grade. The school she attends is 7th and 8th grade only, and has approximately 1600 students in these two grades only. The quality of the education seems to be excellent, with lots of emphasis put on studies. The list of electives for the older children is about two pages long. I am glad they are getting this opportunity, but I really miss them! My daughter seems to be settling in pretty well, and is busy as usual getting kids to school, etc. I know now where most of my vacation time will be spent. On these cold winter days, there’s nothing like a cup of hot chocolate and a good book. We have added lots of new titles to our shelves, too numerous to mention here.   Check out our web page at www.lafollettepubliclibrary.org for a complete listing of the books. You may also pick up a list here at the library. Have a safe and happy week, and God bless you.
