LaFollette’s girls placed 3rd Monday during the Area 2 Track and Field Championship Meet at Anderson County to qualify for sectionals this afternoon (Thursday) at Campbell County High.
Lindsay King had a big day for the Lady Owls with 1st place in long jump, 2nd place in the 100-meter hurdles and 3rd place in the 400-meter dash.
Ashley Whited got LaFollette’s other 1st place finish in the discus throw.
Other qualifiers for the Lady Owls were Bryce Dossett (3rd) in the 200-meter dash, Dakota Murray (3rd) in the high jump and the 4x100 (3rd place) and 4x400 (3rd place) relay teams.
Members of the 4x100 team included Cassie Kohlmeyer, Presley Leach, Murray and Raven Powers. Members of the 4x400 team were Dossett, Abby Greene, Ally Greene and Murray.
LaFollette’s boys finished 4th, which was barely out of the running for a team berth at sectionals. However, the Owls did have three sectional qualifiers: Grant Rector (2nd place) in high jump, Dallas Griffith (2nd place) in long jump and the (3rd place) 4x800-meter relay.
Members of the 4x800 team include Jordan Caldwell, Tristan Gillum, Griffith and Jordan Morris.
Both LMS teams competed Thursday in a meet at Lenoir City.
The Lady Owls placed 3rd in the team standings. King won the hurdles and took 2nd place in the 400. Whited placed 1st in discus.
LaFollette won the boys’ side of the meet. Rector won the high jump and was runner-up in the hurdles. Griffith took 1st place in long jump.
Morris and Caldwell finished one-two in the 800 and also ran a leg of the 1st place 4x800 relay (also Griffith and Gillum).
Clayton Jarrett was runner-up in the 3,200. The Owls also had a 2nd place 4x200 relay team: Griffith, Hunter Campbell, Dalton Rains and Cody Lumpkins.
