LaFollette Middle School golf teams posted a one-two finish this year at the district tournament.
The Owls defeated Clinton by 11 strokes to capture a first place trophy in the boy’s competition.
LaFollette shot 351 as a team. Trevor Huckaby led the Owls with an 86, which was good for fifth place overall. Gunner St. John shot 89, while Caleb Bair and Tyler Chumley each turned in an 88.
Clinton, with a cumulative score of 362, was led by district medalist Josh Gambrell, who shot a tournament low 74.
Norris took third place with a team score of 377. The Senators were led by district runner-up Brandon Lane, who shot 76.
Those three teams advanced to play in the region tournament at Oak Ridge. Jacksboro’s Jake Clowers also qualified for regionals, as an individual, with a score of 83.
“Consistency and depth is key to the boy’s team success,” said LaFollette coach Joey St. John.
In the girl’s district competition, Norris won the championship with a team score of 99, followed by LaFollette with a total of 105 for second place.
Lauren Heatherly shot 51 and Marie Roach 54 for the Lady Owls.
Jacksboro finished third with a cumulative score of 113. Emily Stiner shot 54 and Ashlyn Ray 59 for the Lady Eagles.
These teams also advanced to regionals.
“Our girl’s team was much improved this year,” said coach St. John.
