College student Brittany Goins is doing her part to make Norris Lake a cleaner place.

Goins, 20, is a sophomore at Lincoln Memorial University. She lives near the Blue Springs Dock, and is organizing a lake clean up there on April 14.

“I’m just trying to get a bunch of people to come help,” Goins said. “Anybody can come help.”

People camp in front of Blue Springs Dock. But trash has floated up against the edge of the lake, and kept people from getting in, Goins said. Goins wants to clear the trash so they visitors will have access to the lake.

“It would be nice to clean it up so people can get down there,” Goins said.

On April 14, volunteers will assemble at 1 p.m. and break into groups. The groups will collect trash for a couple of hours, and then Goins will take the waste to a dump near Blue Springs Dock.

Goins has advertised with flyers and on the LMU radio station in Harrogate. She hopes to get around 30 people involved, and has already had about five people respond. She also needs donations, such as trash bags and water, for the pick up.

Those interested in volunteering or making donations can contact Goins at brittany.goins@lmunet.edu.
