Local middle school athletes score well at Oak Ridge meet

Middle school track teams from Jacksboro and LaFollette schools competed against 12 other teams Thursday during a meet at Oak Ridge. 

Jacksboro and LaFollette tied for 6th place on the girls’ side of the meet. 

Gracie Faulkner won the 3,200-meter race and was runner-up in the 800-meter event for the Lady Eagles. 

Other JMS scorers included Regan Lindsay, Sarah Cain, Rayna Rains and Bethany McKamey, who placed 5th for the Lady Eagles in the 4x800-meter relay. Sydney McCreary and Jessica Stanley placed 4th and 5th, respectively, in 100-meter dash. McKenzie West, Lexi Gross, Codi Hatmaker and Regan Lindsay placed 6th in the 4x400 relay. Zoie Mefford placed 4th in discus. Mallory Bolton set a new personal record in the 1,600 meters in 6:56.

Hurdler Lindsay King and discus thrower Ashley Whited, both of whom placed 2nd in their respective events, led LaFollette’s girls. King placed 4th in the 400.

The Lady Owls also won the 4x800 relay.

Kasi Phillips took 5th in the 3,200. Cassie Kohlmeyer, Alexis North, Raven Powers and Whited each ran a leg of the 6th place 4x200 relay.

On the boys’ side of the meet, Austin Raines placed 6th in discus for Jacksboro. Devin Davis placed 6th in the 200 meter. Dawson Hembree placed 4th in the 3,200 meter with a new personal record of 13:00. 

Jacob Bunch, Landon Reese, Austin Rains and Devin Davis placed 5th in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays for the Eagles.

Dallas Griffith, who was runner-up in the long jump, led LaFollette’s boys

The Owls’ 4x800 relay team — Griffith, Jordan Morris, Jordan Caldwell and Eric Phillips — took 4th in its race, while the 4x400 team — Griffith, Cody Lumpkins, Tristan Gillum and Christian England — placed 6th.

Gillum placed 6th in the 3,200.
