New Year’s Eve brawls kept the LaFollette Police Department busy last Wednesday.

That afternoon Officer Corey Taylor was dispatched to a West Chestnut Street address on a report of a fight in progress.

Records indicate when Taylor arrived at the scene he discovered a victim who had allegedly been hit in the head several times with a metal pipe by Calvin W. Reeder, 24, of 321 North Massachusetts Avenue.

Reeder had already left the scene when officers arrived, but was found a short time later at his residence with blood on his clothes.

Reeder was charged with aggravated assault and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23.

Later the same night Officer William Owens received a call of a “fight disturbance involving several people.”

The warrant stated the parties involved in the altercation said Richard A. Brooks, 36, of 515 North 19th Street, had been “driving recklessly and when he was confronted a fight ensued.”

Owens reported Brooks allegedly smelled “strongly of alcohol” and was unsteady on his feet.

According to reports, Brooks allegedly made several false statements to police and became “belligerent and abusive.”

Brooks was arrested and charged with filing a false police report and disorderly conduct. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23.
