Cody Malicoat scored 27 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds last week to lead the Jellico High School boy’s basketball team past Coalfield, 71-64, for a regular season sweep of the Yellowjackets.
Lee England chipped in 12 points for the Blue Devils, followed by Michael Smith with 11 points and 10 rebounds, Ethan Shelley 8 points, Dustin Smiddy 7, Brent Ayers 4 and Devin Oakes 2.
Cody Hill paced Coalfield with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
The teams approached a 100-point pace during the opening quarter, when the Blue Devils took a 24-23 lead. The scoring dropped way off in the second period, which the Yellowjackets won 12-8 to take a 35-32 halftime advantage.
By the end of the third quarter, Jellico had the lead back, 56-50.
The Blue Devils shot 43 percent from the field as compared to 35 percent for Coalfield. The Yellowjackets stayed in the game by shooting over 78 percent (11-of-14) from the charity stripe.
