ELK VALLEY—The Campbell County Sheriff's Office is investigating after an early-morning shooting on Feb. 2.
Deputies responded to the incident at 296 Kind David Lane just before 5 a.m. this morning. At the scene, police found Larry D. Champlin, 53, dead from a gunshot wound to the upper body, according to Sheriff Robbie Goins.
Further investigation revealed that the shooting had been fueled by an alcohol related domestic disturbance. Lt. John Long has been assigned to the case. Long has charged Champlin's girlfriend, Lisa Estelle Elliott, 47, with criminal homicide.
Elliott is being housed at the Campbell County Jail. She will be arraigned in Campbell County's General Sessions Court on Feb. 3. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 11.
