A LaFollette man proved his driving was not the only thing impaired when he decided to lift some merchandise from a local auto parts store.

On Saturday evening LaFollette Police Officer Steve Wallen was notified by dispatch of a report of a motorist who was allegedly driving erratically and failing to stop at traffic lights.

The driver, later identified as Sonny L. McHenry, 30, of 138 Blue Springs Road, turned into the parking lot of a LaFollette auto parts store.

Wallen followed McHenry into the business and allegedly observed him place items “inside the zipper pockets” of his jacket.

According to the complaint, McHenry attempted to leave the store with two packs of chrome valve caps valued at $10.90.

Records indicate upon contact with McHenry, Wallen observed him to be “very unstable.”

McHenry allegedly told Wallen he was under the influence of methadone and refused to take a blood test.

McHenry was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, violation of the implied consent law and theft under $500. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 12.
