Several Campbell County middle school track and field athletes concluded an outstanding season during the recent sectional championships held hosted by Clinton.
Jacksboro Middle had two event winners: Ethan Simpson in boy’s long jump (18-0) and Micheala Smith in girl’s discus (75-11).
Ethan Miller finished second in boy’s discus to LaFollette’s Rusty Provins, who was crowned sectional champion after a school-record throw of 142 feet.
Provins had lost first place to Miller a week earlier during the Area 2 meet. Miller and Simpson teamed with Brandon Long and Kevin Ruan to take second place in the boy’s 4x100 relay.
Long was runner-up in the mile run while Simpson finished second in the 400 dash. Cody Goodman placed fourth in the boy’s two-mile run and Ruan took fifth in the 200 dash.
Aside from Smith’s discus title, Jacksboro’s girls had several other notable performances.
Brooke Bane and Rachel Blackwell finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the two-mile run.
Alyssa Miller took fifth place in discus while Patience Seiber finished sixth in the mile run.
LaFollette’s boys were led by Provins, who was also runner-up in shot put.
The Owls’ 4x800 relay team of Steven Etters, Ray Myers, Matt Bolton and Tyler Greene finished fourth in their race.
Greene ran fifth in the 100 hurdles.
Camille Reynolds led the Lady Owls with a third place finish in the half-mile run in a personal record time of 2:39.
She also ran a leg of the girl’s 4x800 relay, which finished second overall with a new school record time of 11:07.
Other members of that relay team included Samantha Leach, Chelsea King and Madison Griffith.
Leach took fourth place in high jump and fourth in hurdles.
King finished fourth in the 400 dash and sixth in long jump.
