Lately I have been confronted by several people who have asked me how I feel about hell.
It is a very sobering thought to realize that hell is real and not everyone will go to Heaven.
But the word of God makes it clear that hell is just as real as Heaven.
Many believe a loving God would not send anyone to hell. Let me point out two things that you may not have thought of.
First, it there is no hell then there is no judgment for evil- and we therefore live in an unjust universe. God cannot allow sin to go unpunished. Do you honestly believe the Hitler’s and other evil doers of this world will never be judged for their crimes, but will be allowed to spend eternity with God in spite of the fact they sinned against God and broke every moral law He gave us? Second, if there is no hell then Christ would be a liar- because He repeatedly warned us about the reality of hell in many of parables. “The Son of Man will send out his angels and they will weed out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 13:41,42). If Christ did not tell the truth about this, then how can we trust what He said about anything- including His death for our eternal salvation? But Christ can be trusted because He is God-and God does not lie.
In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31). Christ indicated that the rich man in hell could recall many of the events of the earth. Particularly did he remember the sins of omission. He remembered how he ignored the needs of the poor beggar Lazarus. He remembered his five brothers and feared that they might also end up in hell, and asked that a messenger might be sent to the earth to warn them.
There are evidences that may of the events of life will be remembered. Part of hell’s torments will be the suffering of remorse, and of regretful memory.
Then there are those who say, “I don’t believe there will be eternal punishment in there is a hell.” Again, what does Jesus say? “If thy hand offend thee cast it off; it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched; where their worm dieth not, and the first is not quenched” (Mark 9:43,44). And in Jude 7, even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth an example, suffering the vengeance of “eternal fire”. Many scriptures in the Bible speak of eternal fire or unquenchable fire.
The important thing for everyone of us to realize is that God has done everything possible to bring salvation to us, and there is no reason for us to delay accepting His plan for our lives. He is not willing for anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9). God sent His only son, Jesus Christ into the world to die for our sins. All we must do is repent and turn our sins over to Christ and trust Him for our salvation by faith. God’s salvation is a wonderful gift to us that we can never earn. All we have to do is believe and receive it. The time to do that is now because once we die it will be too late. “Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
My challenge to you is to invite Christ into your life, if you have never done so, without delay- “I tell you, now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation” (II Corinthians 6:2).
The good news is, you do not have to face hell and eternal separation from God.
Because Jesus Christ took upon Himself the punishment you and I deserve when He died on the cross. So don’t be deceived, turn to Christ and trust Him for eternal life in Heaven. From my heart.
