Campbell County High School unveiled its new scorer’s table during Tuesday’s games against the Halls Red Devils.
The new table is a newer model than what the school had, complete with padding that covers the front of the table.
“I think that the athletes really appreciate it,” Athletic Director Sherry Chapman said. “Most of the schools are going to the padded tables. We’re just excited to finally get one. Hopefully, it’ll last a long time.”
No new rule instructed the school to get the table, but it was a chance for the Cougars to up the safety of their program.
With the wooden corners the old table had, Chapman said it was a safety issue for the school.
“Kids are constantly diving for balls and things like that, so it is a lot safer,” she said.
However, that isn’t the only upgrades the school is looking at making.
The athletic department has plans to possibly repaint the gym during the summer.
Chapman said the school could possibly find the funds to replace the boy’s broken court-side board as well.
“We need to do some work in here,” Chapman said, “and maybe we can scrape out enough to buy Josh James a new dry erase board.”
