The early morning rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the competitors on Saturday, May 18th at the Archery Tournament sponsored by the Pine Mountain Longbeard’s Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
The tournament was the first of two archery tournaments that will be held at the Ball Farm Event Center in LaFollette.
Two tournaments are held each year to give local archers the opportunity to sharpen their skills.
It also offers some friendly competition with their friends, and a chance at winning a plaque and some prizes.
The course is a walk through type, and thirty 3-D targets are set up at varying distances to test the shooters judgment on distances.
Deer, raccoon, bear and turkey targets comprise the list of different aiming points being shot at.
There are four different divisions that the shooter can choose from to enter: professional, amateur, sportsman and youth.
The next tournament will be held on September 7th and registration begins at 8:00 a.m.
Sharpen up those archery skills and come on out for some friendly competition and a morning of being with fellow archers.
The proceeds from the tournaments go to the NWTF Turkey Hunters Care program.
This program provides food baskets at Christmas for needy families in the local community.
This past year, a total of ninety food baskets were distributed.
This year’s winners in each category are as follows:
Professional: First place, Eric Tackett; Second place, Jeff Wilson
Amateur: First place, Sonya Wilson; Second place, Tyler Byrge
Sportsman: No entry’s
Youth: First place, Hailey Wilson; Second place, Mollie Wilson
