Carl Vernon Austin, 61, of Jacksboro, died Nov.  24.

He was preceded in death by parents, Benjamin and Bertha Austin of Lake City; brother, Arthur Austin; sisters, Naomi Childs and Alma Hembree.

Carl is survived by brother, Frank Buck Austin of Salt Lake City, Utah; sisters, Dean Baer and Kathleen Shook of Toledo, Ohio and Dorothy Wilson of Caryville; a host of family, friends and loved ones.

Willie Reece Berry

Willie Reece Berry, 82 of Oneida, formerly of Caryville, died Nov. 22.

He was a member of Ivy Grove Baptist Church in Caryville.

Willie was preceded in death by first wife Lillian Berry; son, Roger Keith Berry; daughter, Brenda Berry; parents William Wymer and Flora Phillips Berry; grandparents Sherman and Louvina Phillips; grandchildren Michael Berry, Reanna Holloway; great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Emmons.

He is survived by wife, Della Carson Berry; daughters, Karen Phillips and husband Gary, Gail and husband Dennis, Darla Holloway and husband Scott; son, Danny Berry and wife Mary; step-children, Tony Younce and wife Tippie, Nelson E. Younce, Angelia Griffith and husband Richard, Joey Younce and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Allen, Rodney, Amie, Angela, Danielle, Keisha, Chelsea, Jewelya; great-grandchildren, Kyra, Alexis, Keira, Maddelyne, Whitney, Dalton, Isaiah, and Austin; special step- grandchildren, Crissy, Jackie and Jodie; special cousin Denny Pennington and  special friend L.A.; sisters, Margaret Moses, Katherine Sorrells, Nancy Scott, Sarah Woods and Sue Henry; brothers, Allen, Andy and Tommy Berry.

Charles Pete Blankenship, Jr.,

Charles Pete Blankenship, Jr., 53, died Nov. 21 at North Knoxville Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 12, 1958 in Sidney, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by mother, Wilma Douglas Blankenship.

Charles is survived by father, Charles Blankenship Sr., of Jellico; wife, Janice Cox Blankenship of Jellico; brothers, Dave Blankenship of Little Elk and Billy Ray Blankenship of Newcomb; sister, Sharon Drees of Sidney, Ohio; a host of family and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were held Nov. 23 with the Rev. John Loudin officiating. Interment was in Douglas Cemetery.

David A. Burress, 64, died Nov. 20.

In addition to his father, David is preceded in death by his son, Rodney Burress.

He is survived by mother, Nona Marie Burress; sons, Rusty Burress, Robert Brown and Dion Brown.

Charles Donnie Cox

Charles Donnie Cox, 57, of Jellico died Nov. 25 at his home. He was born June 1, 1954 in Jellico.

He is preceded in death by father, Carl Edward Cox; mother, Dafnie Canady Cox; brother, Virgil Cox; sisters, Shirley Cummins, Geneva Gibson and Charotte Franklin.

He is survived by wife, Velma Justice Stanfill Cox of Jellico; son, Charles Chuck Cox and wife Jaclyn; grandchildren, Tristan and Aydan Cox; brothers, Clarence Edward Cox and Claude Cox; sisters, Minnie Letner, Edna Christian and Janice Blankenship and a host of friends and family.

Funeral services were held Nov. 27 with the Rev. John Hunley officiating. Interment was in Douglas Cemetery.

Betty Jean Hart, died Nov. 25.

She was preceded in death by parents, Earl Gordon Edwards Sr. and Clella Raley Edwards.

Betty is survived by husband, Edward Wayne Hart; children, Debbie Brown, Lesa Maher, and Christopher Hart.

Lucinda Justice

Lucinda Justice, 80, died Nov. 24.

She was preceded in death by husband, Earl E. Justice, parents, George and Nannie Bolton Gaylor.

Lucinda is survived by sons, Leon Justice and Eugene; daughters, Donna Bruce and Shelia Earlene Franklin all of LaFollette.

Raymond Wesley Moore

Raymond Wesley Moore, 87, of LaFollette died  Nov. 22,  at LaFollette Nursing Home. He was a member of First Baptist Church of LaFollette where he served as a teacher and a deacon. He also spent 15 months in Africa as a lay missionary. Raymond was a 32nd degree mason. Raymond was born in Warren, Ohio on June 6, 1924 to William and Marie Helen Riggs Moore. He graduated from Champion High School in 1943 and served in World War II in the Air Force. In September 1946 he married Marjorie, his wife of 65 years. He and his father were in the coal business for 25 years in Ohio. He and his wife moved to LaFollette in 1975.

Raymond is preceded in death by his father and mother William and Helen Moore; son, Michael Raymond Moore; sister, Edith Pope; two aunts, Edna Browning and Irene Moore both of Phoenix, Ariz.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie Moore; children, Patricia Ann Curtis of Lisbon, Ohio, William Earl Moore of Negley, Ohio, Michael Moore of Salem, Ohio and Mark Moore of LaFollette; brother Clyde Moore and wife Maureen of Harrogate; sister, Marian O’Mahon and husband David of Warren, Ohio; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services were held Nov. 25 with Dr. Duane Mills officiating.

Connie Rose Cornelia Mondoni Pelizzari

Connie Rose Cornelia Mondoni Pelizzari, 84, of LaFollette, died Nov 24. She was born Feb. 19, 1927 in Pioneer. Connie was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She retired in 1989 from the Ccty of LaFollette after 23 years as librarian of the public library. She was past matron of Cumberland Mountain Chapter # 137 Order of Eastern Star, a member of LaFollette Book Club, Friends of LaFollette Library, and Campbell County Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by parents, Sonto Mondoni, Sr. and Cynthia Avance Mondoni; husband, Gaetano William “Tiny” Pelizzari, and son, William Edward “Bill” Pelizzari; brothers, Sonto Mondoni, Jr. and Premo Mondoni; sister, Mary Mondoni.

Connie is survived by daughter, Teresa Ann Pelizzari of Knoxville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held Nov. 28 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Joe Campbell officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Connie has requested any donations to be made to OLPH Catholic Church or your favorite charity in her memory.

Carl R. Stevens, 61, died Nov. 27.

Violet Vanderpool Stidham

Violet Vanderpool Stidham, 82, of Adkins Loop, Williamsburg, Ky., died Nov. 23 at her home. She was born Jan.3, 1929 in Packard, Ky.

She is preceded in death by father, Verdie Vanderpool; mother, Martha Hamblin Vanderpool; husband, Ulyess Stidham.

Violet is survived by daughter, Cathy Lawson; grandchildren, Eulis Clint Lawson, Jason Joe Don Lawson; great-grandchildren, Angel Violet, Danielle, Zack, Gracie, Melinda and Clerisa Lawson; brothers, Robert, Ronnie, A.J., and H.C. Vanderpool; sisters, Barbara Williford and Dorothy Dixon, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family to mourn her passing.

Rev. Ned C. Watts

Rev. Ned C. Watts, Jr., 74, died Nov. 18, at Rivercrest Nursing Home in the Deaconess Abundant Life Community in Concord, Mass. Ned served the Lord in the United Methodist Church New England Conference for over 40 years. He served churches in Chelmsford, Weston, Worcester and Westborough, Mass. Prior to his retirement in 2003 he served as District Superintendent of the Rhode Island South Eastern Massachusetts District (RISEM). Ned attended the McCallie School in Chattanooga and received his Bachelors of Arts, Bachelors and Master of Divinity at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. Ned had a true gift from God for mentoring pastors and supporting them in their call to Christian ministry.

He is survived by his wife Joan Mortimer-Watts of Concord, Mass.; step-sons, the Rev. Glenn Mortimer and his wife Elizabeth of Wakefield, Mass.; John Mortimer and his wife Kathy of Santa Rosa, Calif. and his step-mother Joann Watts of Jellico. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church 114 Main Street, Worcester, Mass. Burial is private. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Rev. Ned C. Watts, Jr. Fund for Christian Ministry c/o the Preacher’s Aid Society. P.O. Box 3386, Plymouth, Mass. 02361.
